Powers of Attorney & Advanced Health Directive

What is an Advance Health Directive?

An Advance Health Directive is a way for you to communicate your wishes about medical treatment should you be unable to make decisions about your health treatment in the future, especially when you are in a critical life threatening condition.

When Should I Make an Advance Health Directive?

Because an Advance Health Directive is in preparation for the unexpected, the best time to make one is now. Certainly, it is a good idea to ensure you have an Advance Health Directive if you are about to be admitted to hospital or have a medical condition that may affect your ability to make decisions.

What is an Enduring Power of Attorney?

An Enduring Power of Attorney is a document giving another person the power to make personal and financial decisions on your behalf. An Enduring Power of Attorney continues if you lose the capacity to make the decisions yourself.

Why give a Power of Attorney?

A Power of Attorney is important as you may not always be able to make decisions when you need to. In circumstance where you become disabled or ill and are unable to make decisions, or if you are simply travelling overseas, a power of attorney means that your wishes can be carried out.
