Business Pathway
Migrants intending on using the business pathway for entry into Australia generally start with a temporary business visa which applies best to them. This gives them a chance to fulfill their visa and business requirements within Australia at which time they are free to apply for a permanent business visa.
Skilled Pathway
Generally those who migrate on a skilled visa usually go straight onto a permanent residency visa. You can however go onto a provisional 3 year visa to work in a specified regional area. After living in this area for 2 years and working there for at least one year you become eligible to apply for a Skilled Regional (Residence) visa with a subclass 887.
Employer Sponsored Pathway
Through the employer sponsored system you can apply for a permanent visa straight away if you meet the requirements. However many emigrants go through a temporary 457 visa first. This visa allows for a 4 year temporary stay working in Australia to build experience in a job or position and to boost eligibility for a permanent employer sponsored visa.
Spouse Pathway
Most spouse visas are done for already married couples, one of which is an Australian Citizen or permanent Residency. These visas give a two year temporary visa at which time the department will check in and see if the relationship is still genuine and existing before granting a permanent visa.
The perspective marriage visa adds a step to this process but allows for applicants who are not yet married to enter the country for 9 months in which time they are expected to marry and apply for the usual spouse visa process.
Student Pathway
The student visa allows for those students who have recently completed an eligible qualification as a result of 2 years study in Australia but do not meet the point requirement for a skilled visa to apply for a Graduate visa which gives them 18 months further in Australia with which to increase work experience and/or find an employer to sponsor them in an effort to become eligible for a permanent visa.
